Peternity Winner

Thanks to everyone who entered the contest for $75 toward any purchase at Peternity.

This is one contest where I really want to give everyone a prize. It's a good thing I'm using Random.org, because otherwise it would be impossible to pick just one of you on my own.

Congratulations to Naomi from superdumb supervillain. Naomi blogged about the loss of her precious cats here.

Reading each of your entries really touched my heart. Thank you for sharing your stories with me and may each of you who have lost a pet be comforted in your memories of him/her.

Much thanks to Peternity for sponsoring this wonderful contest!

Peternity - Review and Giveaway

Note: If you read this site through a feed such as bloglines, you may see a post that has now been deleted. I accidentally posted something that belonged on my personal site over here. My apologies!

I took my puppy to the vet for a check-up this evening, and the vet was really depressed because one of the cats they shelter at their facility has been sick. They had hoped she'd get better, and she was about to be adopted.

But, just as Sophie, my puppy, was getting her Lyme vaccine, word came in that they were putting the cat down at the local animal hospital. This is the same hospital that I had to take my beagle Copper to when we lost her, so it brought back a lot of memories for me.

Losing a pet is so very, very hard. That's why I was more than happy to accept an opportunity to review a company that helps honor the memories of our beloved friends after they've passed.

Peternity specializes in pet memorials and gifts and helps you "honor your pet for eternity." From their site:
Pet memorials are the perfect way to honor the memory of your dear pet. Choose from a wide selection of pet grave markers, pet urns, pet keepsake boxes, pet portraits, and much, much more. Our hand selected artisans are busy creating lovely pieces to help you to memorialize your dear friend with elegance and grace. Please take a look inside.

I found their pet grave markers and their pet blankets to be especially beautiful:

The grave markers are laser engraved and are are available in Marble, Genuine River Rock, Cultured River Rock, Cultured Slate, Black Granite and Bluestone. There are dozens of different styles and designs to suit your particular tastes.

I really want one of the pet blankets myself. After we lost Copper, I put her picture up on my laptop as a screensaver, and every night, before I shut down the computer, I would "pet" her and tell her I love her. It helped me so much.

To have a physical thing to touch like that really makes a difference. A soft, cuddly blanket with Copper's photo would be so wonderful to curl up with.

The product I was able to review was a gorgeous glass cube that was etched with a pet's name and photo:

That was another one I would personally love to have to remember my Copper by. It is subtle and classy enough to display on an office desk and you can tell it's a very high-quality product. You really have to see it in person to see how elegant it is.

Peternity is generously offering readers of So a Blonde Walks Into a Review, a $75 gift certificate to use towards anything on their site.

Even if you have not lost a pet, maybe you know someone that has? This would be the perfect way to reach out and show them that you care (it means a lot since so often, pet loss is not acknowledged as much as it should be).

To enter, simply click on over to Peternity and check out their products. Then come back here and leave a comment letting me know what your favorite one is. It's that easy!

If you would like a bonus entry to the contest, simply link to this post and to Peternity, and I will put your name down twice. Or, if you are a non-blogger, you may email 5 of your friends these links and cc me at: ablondeandherblog AT yahoo DOT com and you will get a bonus entry as well. Remember that you must comment here as well to be entered.

Deadline to enter is 11:59 on Tuesday, February 5. Winner will be selected at random using Random.org.

Good luck!

Remembering Your Pet - Review and Giveaway

Note: This post will remain at the top of my blog for the duration of this contest. Scroll down for updates and other contests. Thank you!

When my beloved beagle Copper passed away in August, I was beyond devastated. I wanted some way to keep her close to me...close to my heart. I came across Ashes to Ashes Urn Keepsake and Jewelry Company and I knew I'd found what I was looking for.

The company was gracious enough to send me this gorgeous paw print Semper Memoria cross pendent:

Isn't it lovely? It's one of many in their line of paw print keepsake jewelry. Here's the description of the Semper Memoria Cross from their site:

"Our cross design is purposefully designed to resemble both a Latin cross and a crucifix. For most ancient peoples the cross was a metaphor for the four
indestructible elements of creation (air, earth, fire, and water), thus
symbolizing permanence. The crucifix is a symbol of faith and remembrance. The
design of this pendant provides a symbolic gesture for the Latin: Semper Memoria or always remembered."

The most amazing thing about this jewelry is that you can place a small amount of your pet's ashes inside so that you have a part of them with you, close to your heart, at all times. I can't begin to tell you how comforting that is to me.

The jewelry is VERY high quality, too, with intricate detailing and gleaming silver. The back is engravable (Ashes to Ashes does not do the engraving, however), and complete instructions for filling the jewelry are included, as well as all of the supplies that you will need.

It's a very easy process and I now wear my necklace all the time. When I find myself missing Copper, I just rub the cross between my fingers and even give it a little kiss from time to time.

Ashes to Ashes has so much to offer those who have lost a pet, from burial caskets and urns to numerous resources on coping with your loss.

Here are a few other items that caught my eye:

Pet Loss Care Package to comfort someone who has lost their pet. Something like this would've meant a lot to me when we lost Copper. It includes:

  • Celebrating Love Booklet - Experiencing the Loss of a Pet
  • Celebrating a Life - Remembrance Journal
  • Programs: Guidance for a Farewell Memorial Service, & Candlelight Vigil
  • Four vigil candles

I also like their line of wooden pet urns. The cedar urns are lined in satin and have a lock and key. The oak urns hold photos or plaques, and the mausoleum urns can hold a plaque as well.

But take a look at their laser engraved pet urns:

Here is a description from the site:

"With laser and computer equipment we can preserve your favorite pet photo or words of remembrance for an eternity in polished black or white marble. Simply send or email us your favorite photograph (scan to e-mail) and we will reproduce that image onto a marble plaque ideal for in-home or office display in the included oak pet urn. The result is a laser engraved picture with astonishing detail."

What a truly beautiful way to remember your pet.

Ashes to Ashes has generously offered to give away one of their exquisite pieces of jewelery in any style (except gold) to one of you!
